Always a reader. Writing to remember and to share my thoughts on the books I read.
The success of Prayers for the Stolen by Jennifer Clement lies in the awareness it raises about conditions in rural Mexican communities. The book is focused on creating a picture of the society rather than developing characters and plot. It does create a vivid picture in describing the sad reality of drug trafficking, human trafficking, poverty, alcoholism and other things that threaten these communities.
